"The Danger of Silence"

There is this slam poem/ TEDx talk by Clint Smith titled "The Danger of Silence" where he quotes Martin Luther King Jr's words "In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silences of our friends".
This quote became my favourite and that's my attempt at visualizing it.

Numb

Nothing feels better than letting all the stress out and painting during exam times.
I will let the painting speak for itself.

A better match

We were nothing but a few shades of grey molded into each other so beautifully. It was never to get more magical. I lost parts of me in you and so did you. But we were nothing but a few shades of grey and who wouldn't prefer a bit colour in their life? So you found yourself the perfect shades of the perfect colour, someone who is a better match to you than I am. And I tried so hard to become a colour, any colour, even the ones I hated, but I failed. And because I was so lost and confused I became every colour there is. And all colours combined create white. Now I am nothing but white shattered pieces holding on to the memory of a once magical life.

I never wrote an interpretation to any painting in my entire life, but I thought I would this time, because I didn't think many would get it right. Now I'm actually contradicting myself, because I always said the thing I liked the most about abstract is that everyone can see it differently, so even though I wrote an interpretation this time, I'd still like to hear those of other people.
Today is the 21st of November and I only realized that at the very end, but I was so happy, because I like the number 21 the most.
This is also the first time I paint something within the following two days after being inspired to do it and I am glad about that.
Ciao, beatiful people.

"Mystère"

This summer I went to the US. One of the cities I visited there was Las Vegas and as much as I hated it, watching Cirque du Soleil's show "Mystère" was one of the top 3 things I enjoyed doing there the most. I was never inspired more by anything in my entire life. It was a great show; a two hour long piece of art with awesome music. I downloaded the tracks and listened to them while painting this, which was magical, because it almost brought me back there. I started the painting on September 27th and was done with everything except that figure in the forderground. But because school takes up most of my time I was only able to get it done yesterday.

Wall paintings

I haven't even held a paint brush in my hand since April and today it was finally time to do it. My friend, Mona Sophie, and I painted on her bedroom wall. Again! This is the second time we do.
The first time (which was last year) we painted a peacock and today we painted something a little more abstract next to her book shelf.

Electra

It's been a while since I last painted! It sucks, but anyway, I got this painting done last week; once again very early in the morning before everyone woke up. It's just magical painting while watching the sun rise.
I named this painting Electra after this amazing eight year old girl I met in Siwa last month. And I know you'll probably never read this, Electra Henrik, but thank you so much, I owe you a lot for being such a great inspiration to me.
Oh and this is finally my very first "purplish gold" painting!

"Beauty in a Bubble"

I do not remember when I started painting this, but it was about two months ago, I guess. I had painted the background back then and yesterday I finally finished all the rest. It sucks how long it sometimes takes me to finish a painting.
This is the first painting I ever varnished. And spray varnishing is actually harder than I thought it would be, I think I'll try varnishing with a brush next time.
Oh and I put the title "Beauty in a Bubble" between quotation marks on purpose, because I'm not the one who came up with the name; it was a friend of mine who did.

Absent-minded Smile

This is my first mixed media painting (if I may call it that). I used PVA adhesive, crushed dried flower petals and acrylics. It's the second biggest painting I did so far (30×100cm). It was painted on Saturday December 28th 2013 and is therefore the last one I painted that year.

Random Sketch

I did most of this sketch while talking on the phone. I hate talking on the phone and this was really the only thing to keep me occupied.
I hope I will get some paintings and sketches done by the end of the month. I painted on December 28th, but still didn't take -what I call- "the good photo" of the painting. Hopefully I will soon.
Happy new year, ciao.

Untitled

I painted this on October 6th, I remember nothing about this day, except that it was awful. I'd like to keep the painting untitled, I guess it's better this way, I hate naming things anyway, it's too big of a responsibility for me.

This 50×70cm acrylic on canvas painting is now hanging in my friend's room.

Golden Whiskers

This painting belongs to the same collection my "Golden Ivory" belongs to. I still didn't come up with a good name for the collection. The name is the last thing that concerns me this time, though. I believe naming things is a great responsibility and I find it pretty hard to name anything, specially paintings. What concerns me more about this collection though is its becoming an actual collection! I don't want to end up with only these two paintings, just because I don't have enough time or because I never actually finish what I start doing.

Mountain Peak

When I paint I sort of let everything go and feel much better when I'm done. But this wasn't the case this time. Maybe because I didn't spend so much time painting it, it's only 20×30cm big anyway and took me just a couple hours. I would've loved to go bigger, but the painting's for a friend and she asked for this certain size.

Golden Ivory

Just a few months ago I used to apply only thick paint. Water never ended up on one of my paintings, which was pretty stupid. Now because of all the water I use, it takes more than 12 hours for the painting to dry out! 12 hours! That sounds like forever.

P.S. Acrylic spray paint tastes awful, trust me, I accidentally tried it while preparing the background.

Watercolour Sketches

I painted the first sketch on the 10th of July and I coincidentally painted the second on the 10th of the following month; August. I thought it'd be cool if I painted one on the 10th of each month and since today's the 10th of September, it was time for a new sketch!

The first one was painted in Duke of York Square by the Saatchi in London. It was the first time I ever painted on the street.
The second sketch is of three telephone booths I saw in Trafalger Square in front of the Charing Cross Underground station.
And the third is of an area I spotted in Piccadely Circus using a view finder.

Foolishly polite

I'm not good with words, so I'll just let this painting speak for itself.
I'll tell you this though; being polite is really important, but don't let that prevent you from speaking up.

Blue Mess

I got yelled at for making a mess while painting this, but it was definitely worth it.
This 50×50cm acrylic spray and paint on canvas will soon be hanging in its new home in Cairo.

My second landscape

This is the second landscape I ever painted. I never really knew I could paint landscapes and I defo didn't know it's going to be that much fun.
There's just one thing that I'm kinda worried about; I'm not quite sure if it's okay to paint landscapes using acrylic paint. It's like all landscapes are usually painted using oil colours and they all have this vintage feeling to them, which is not available in my painting. I just hope that's acceptable.. I don't know.

Midnight sketches

I have been sketching for days now. It's slowly becoming an obsession. I really miss painting though.
The sketches of these cartoon characters were inspired by two amazing artists' work, that I got to see at the Saatchi in London; Gerald Davis' triptych "Fagboy" and Annie Kevans' portraits of dictators as children.

Red Ocean

I always have the feeling that the painting isn't messy enough when I abstract. I keep trying to express myself through painting and I mostly think I do until I look at the final result. No painting -so far- reflected all my feelings and thoughts perfectly. But this painting here, I assume, is the closest to that messy colourful painting, I've been lately wanting to paint.

Milky Way

The best thing about abstract painting is that either you're in control of the paint brush or the paint brush is in control of you. It's hard to explain, but it's just that sometimes you don't know what to do next and you end up closing your eyes and letting the paint brush lead you. Well, they say that your feelings and thoughts are the ones leading you, but I'm not sure about that. I bet they're right, I just didn't reach the point, where I can fully express myself through painting. Not yet at least..
But all I know is that I enjoy nothing more than painting, even if I'm not always really satisfied with the result.

This is the first time I use spray paint while painting! And it's awesome!
When I was painting these circles my sister came to me and was like "Are these planets?".
Her comment really annoyed me, but I thought I'd name the painting "Milky Way" to always remember that provoking comment of hers.
I know you don't read my blog, little sister, but good job, you practically named the painting for me.

That's it for tonight!
Ciao, beautiful people
